Private Landlords and agents in Wales should be aware of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 (“the Act”) which introduces a compulsory registration and licensing scheme for private landlords and letting and management agents. At the time of writing, the exact date for implementation has not been announced, but the landlord registration provisions of the Act are expected to come in to force this Autumn.

The Act is intended to improve the supply, quality and standards of housing in Wales. The Act places a duty on local authorities to prevent homelessness and places a duty on local authorities to provide sites for “Gypsies and Travellers” where a need is identified. The Act only applies to Wales.

A link to the Act is attached.
